Average time rules are a powerful tool for managing table turnover and improving service efficiency during busy periods. By assigning tailored booking durations based on factors like party size, you can make the most of your available tables and keep service flowing smoothly. With ResDiary, average time rules can be customized using a combination of service type, party size, day of the week, time of day, or even specific date ranges giving you full control over how long each booking lasts.

⚠️ Warning: You probably already have an average time configured in the general tab of your service, unless you are creating a new service. This setting applies for all your bookings. If you add a more specific rule as described in this guide, it will override the setting in the general tab, under the factors you've selected.

Manage your average time rules

Follow the steps below to create your average time rules:

  1. Click Settings, then Services.

  2. Select a segment if applicable.

  3. Click the Edit icon next to your service.

  4. Click Average Time Rules.

  5. Click Add.

  6. Complete at least one of the following fields:

    • Covers: Rule is valid only for that cover size.

    • Applicable on: Rule is valid for a specific date range or days of the week.

    • Times: Rule is valid only for specific time ranges.

  7. Add the table duration under average time.

  8. Click Save, then again Save.

πŸ“Œ Note: Your table durations are only visible internally unless you decide to enable a leave time rule for your diners.
