Create your segment

You can use segments to change your rules for a specific date range.

Segments is the table management function that allows you to change your core diary setting for a specific date range without affecting your day to day setup, more commonly known in ResDiary as normal operations. Among those setting you can find areas, tables, services and rules.

⚠️ Warning: Segments are a very tricky function to setup and will affect your availability if not created correctly. Feel free to reach out to our support team on [email protected] to have one created for you.

Create your segment

Since segments are managed by dates, and all dates are included in the normal operations segment by default, you’ll first need to take the date range you want to use for the new segment out of the normal operations segment. For example, you want to create a new segment for valentine's day, your normal operations segment runs from 17/12/2017 to 31/12/2037, therefore, we need to edit the normal operations date range and remove 14/02/2026.

🤓 Tip: Have a pen and paper at the ready to write down the dates you are adding and removing.

Remove the date range from existing segment

Follow the steps below to exclude a date range from your existing segment:

  1. Click Settings, then Segments.

  2. Click the Edit icon of your segment, by default is Normal Operations.

  3. From the Date Range section, find the one that includes the dates you want to use on your new segment and write those down.

  4. Click the Delete button next to that date range.

  5. Add two date ranges that exclude those dates:

    1. Add Start Date.

    2. Add End Date.

    3. Click Add Date Range.

  6. You now have two date periods that exclude the ones you want to use for the new segment, click Save.

For example, if you want to exclude valentine's day from your normal operation segment that normally runs from 17/12/2017 to 31/12/2037, you should have the following date periods as a result: From 17/12/2017 to 13/02/26 and from 15/02/2026 to 31/12/2037.

⚠️ Important: Always include past dates into your day to day segment as these will ensure you can see the history of those dates on your grid view.

Create your new segment

Follow the steps below to create your new segment:

  1. Click Settings, then Segments.

  2. Click Create New.

  3. Enter a Name and Description from the text fields.

  4. Enter the Start and End Date range.

  5. Next to Inherit Areas from click on the dropdown and select Normal Operations.

  6. Tick all the boxes that appear at the bottom, some will be clickable after you enable other ones.

  7. Click Save.

⚠️ Warning: If you get an error when attempting to save, then most likely you haven't excluded the date period from your existing segment, refer back to Remove the date range from existing segment on this guide.

Action after segment creation

Congratulations, your segment is now created. You can edit its settings and manage bookings for the selected date range.

Existing bookings

Since your segment is created all existing bookings made on that date range are unallocated. You may want to reallocate the bookings straight away or wait until you have made the necessary adjustments to the new segment setup.
